Exclusive Interview with LaNette Kincaide
By Dendy Media
Today we’d like to introduce you to LaNette Kincaide.
It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?
My name is LaNette Kincaide and I’m a best-selling author and writing coach. In short, I write, I publish and I teach others how to write and publish their stories. I graduated with both a Bachelors of Science and Associates of Arts from Fort Worth, Texas where I was born and raised. During my time in college, I was selected to be a part of Sigma Kappa Delta /English Honors Society and Alpha Kappa Delta /Sociology Society which is what helped my writing to flourish. Three years ago was a game changer for me, I moved from Texas to Colorado and decided to publish all the things I had been suppressing for years. After writing and publishing my fourth book, I realized that there were so many others that needed to learn the art of writing and my journey to teach others began.
I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?
Being a small business has its challenges, but I think the one that hits the hardest for me was not being prepared to be a virtual only type business due to coronavirus. If I can be honest, I laughed at other businesses that were by appointment only or the businesses that handled everything online. Thinking back on it, the businesses that were always virtual before the coronavirus pandemic weren’t crazy at all; they were just prepared. Moving to an online only type system was a challenge for me because I’m a very sociable person and I model my business this way. At the beginning of the pandemic, I was planning in-person classes and tutoring sessions. Fast forward, I’ve transitioned to a safe online environment for my clients, but being forced to change was definitely a challenge.
Let’s talk about the work you do. What do you specialize in and why should someone work with you over the competition?
When I started my writing journey of wanting to publish my writing, I remember how hard it was to find the right person to help me with something so simple as publishing my books. As a writing coach, I decided to offer things in my business that I knew writers would need to actually complete their books and other writing projects such as schedules, structure, discipline and deadlines. I have to admit, I’m always asked the question of “am I a book coach or am I an author coach?” and the answer is I’m a writing coach! Book and author coaches are only able to coach a person who is writing books. As a writing coach, I’m able to coach a person who is writing regardless of the project. I’m capable of coaching a person writing books, poetry, music and any writing genres. I also take on ghost writing assignments which allows me to be the writing voice for my clients. Some people are coaches based on what they have learned and not actually what they’ve accomplished, I have written and self-published four books. One of my books was noted by Amazon as a Top-Selling book in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia.
What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?
A Lot of people don’t know this, but my freshman college professor absolutely loved everything that I wrote for his class and on my final graded paper he wrote, “You are a natural born writer!” Although I never forgot my college professor and what he said about my writing, I allowed my self-doubt and negative people to talk me out of my true passion for writing. So many of us walk around thinking that we need jobs to survive, but in reality it’s the other way around. You carry the brains and the next big idea, you are just afraid to allow your ideas to flow. The best piece of advice I would give to someone looking to find success is to believe in yourself and never suppress what you are capable of. Also if there is something that you dream of doing, whether that’s writing a book, becoming a singer or actor, surround yourself with the people that are already doing what you’re dreaming of. Stop listening to the negative voices in your mind.
Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?
Success for me means waking up everyday with no excuses, striving to build a legacy for my family and the generations to come. No longer blaming others for my downfalls, but knowing it’s okay to fall as long as I get back up and continue on my journey to strive for a better tomorrow. Success for me is walking through doors that weren’t originally opened for me, my skills and talents surrounded me with the right people at the right time. Believing in everything I touch and also teaching others to believe in everything they touch.
What’s next for you?
What’s next?
Believe it or not writing is in demand. Writing is a skill that is required in every aspect of our life. I am currently working on my next book called, “Writing A Book In 4 Simple Steps.” My upcoming book will break down the four major components to writing a book. I was inspired to write this book because I realized that both in high school and college we are given assignments to read and write about others, but there is really not an educational system to teach someone to write and tell their story. What I realized with my current and potential clients is that most people don’t struggle with writing itself, but the stressors of writing a book. One of the most popular questions I get about writing is, “how do I get started” or “I just finished writing my book, now what?” One of my overall goals with my business, is to create a curriculum for students that will help them be confident with their writing which will not only encourage more school age authors but also increase academic scores in the writing arena.
Finally, how can people connect with you if they want to learn more.
At the moment, my business offers writing services such as resume writing, college and high school tutoring for SAT/ACT essay writing. We also provide writing and self-publishing classes for anyone looking to write and self-publish their first book. I also own a publishing company in Colorado that offers full service publish only services which come in three different packages. Some of our ideal clients would include military personnel transitioning from military services, men and women with success stories or stories that would help others in some facet or another. Our goal with our writing classes is to teach others to tell their life experiences through writing to help others who may have experienced the same life experience. As a business owner, I wanted to incorporate emotional writing into my business since I was able to use writing as a coping mechanism to help me through my life experiences.
